Views from the City: CXOs on the election
I’ve been collecting opinions from readers of The Executive Summary on the election.
It appears confidence from city folk in political leadership and business-friendly policy has never been so low.
What do you think?

“Brexit has ruined the City. The Tories have done themselves no favours making business harder at every turn. The trouble is no one is going to help business grow now.”
Banking – CXO
“It’s a f&^ing sh1t show. No party has anything significant to offer nor have they thought about how to drive real productivity and trade.”
Retail – CXO
“Labour will be a breath of fresh air. I don’t back either party in general, but if it’s a matter of picking the lesser of two evils, Labour will make a difference.”
Construction – CXO
“You only need to visit hospitals and schools to realise we need more public spending. Can any government afford that? No. Can they borrow? Not like they did. Will all governments raise tax? Yes. So pick which baddy you like the most.”
Media – NED
“I don’t trust any of them. They never look after small businesses. I’d like to hire another 100 people but PAYE and NI – make it so hard, I decided to hire abroad instead. They should cut corporation tax and PAYE for small companies. It would create massive productivity gains.”
Fintech – Entrepreneur
“Defending our country, streets and health system are going to be paramount. This government and London’s mayor are failing to maintain safety and security. I’ll vote Conservative because my friend is my local MP and he’s brilliant, but I am not confident in our PM.”
Finance – FTSE chair
“I think the Tories will do better than people think. The polls have not been accurate and folks are wary of the tax rises from Labour. I don’t agree that Labour would be good right now because they’re inexperienced and we need a steady hand. Not sure that is Rishi though.”
Mid-size Manufacturing – VP
“Clearly we need to change the government. It’s not going to be easy for business as taxes rise at a time when balance sheets have been hammered, but for the country’s morale, the Tories have failed us.”
Engineering – FTSE CXO
“I worry we have no faith in our politicians. Cameron and Boris have damaged politics for many years. It doesn’t help there is very little wiggle room in the spending pot, but I just think we need a change of guard.”
Mid-size – CXO
“The Tories will be defeated. Reform, don’t know. Labour looks likely to win, but the Lib Dems might pull some seats. I’m really positive a change will give business a boost. We will know the framework to work to.”
